The inaugural Founders Ride on October 5th is a 111 mile bicycle ride from New York City to Philadelphia, between the two founding Beat the Streets programs, to raise awareness for 222 community based wrestling programs Beat the Streets has supported in the last 10 years. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to increase opportunities to join sports teams for urban youth and continue to build out support for these programs.

Why I started the Fonders Ride

11,058 NCAA wrestlers will step back on the mat on Oct 10th to begin their NCAA season. And while most of us don’t think twice about what that means, I do. Why? Those college student athletes are on campus for one reason alone; they had access to the sport at the high school level. 95% of collegiate wrestlers competed on their high school team.

Last week I asked a group of businessmen to think about the doors that were opened for them through sports. I remember walking into the ‘dungeon’ as a 4 year old. Stepping on the mat for the first time. I still remember what that smell was in the air. What if I go to open that boiler room door and it’s locked. It was never turned into a wrestling room. I don’t meet my coach, go to college, my life doesn’t get saved from bad decisions at 21. If there was no wrestling in my town – I am not me. I am not here today. It’s important to give kids sports.

At Beat the Streets everyday 27 full time staff and 400 coaches work hard in 10 cities to give kids the opportunities I had through sports. I dedicate my life to opening the doors of boiler rooms and turning them into safe places to play. We work with some of the hardest and toughest neighborhoods in our major cities. Neighborhoods most people might never go into.

Join me in donating to give kids more wrestling programs. To give the life changing impact of sport. Join me in donating to Beat the Streets and pushing hard to open more doors this year and create life changing access to afterschool wrestling programs.

YOUR DONATION IS DOUBLED THANKS TO ALSTON CONSTRUCTION. HOW WILL IT MAKE AN IMPACT?

Every donation will be matched 1 to 1; for every dollar donated two will go towards building out access to wrestling programs in urban communities served by Beat the Streets. If you donate $1000, $2000 will be donated. I believe in this so much I just made a significant donation. Please join me in donating.
